Surgical assistants are advanced allied health professionals, and the first people surgeons turn to help ensure safe, effective, streamlined surgical procedures. Under supervision of the surgeon, surgical assistants are responsible for skills ranging from body plane closures, wound visualization, hemostasis and the application of advanced knowledge of all surgical phases.
Accredited by the Commission on 认证 of Allied Health Education Programs, the Collin College 外科协助 Program is the only program in Texas and one of only 13 nationwide.
Minimum Expectations:
Our goal is to prepare competent entry-level surgical assistants by developing, Cognitive
(knowledge), Psychomotor (skills), Affective (behavior) learning domains.

The Advanced Technical Certificate in 外科协助 is a one-year program that begins in the summer semester and continues in the fall and spring semesters. Classes are hybrid and offered at the McKinney Campus and online. Enrollment is limited and competitive.
Upon successful completion of the program the student is awarded an Advanced Technical Certificate in 外科协助 and is eligible to sit for the NBSTSA National Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) exam.
Program Information
Graduates of the 外科协助 program are entitled to an Advanced Technical
Certificate in 外科协助 and are eligible to sit for the national certification
examination administered by the National Board of 外科手术技术 and Surgical
Assisting (NBSTSA) (www.nbstsa.org). Those students passing the certification exam are allowed to use the title Certified
Surgical First Assist (CSFA)

The Collin College 外科协助 program maintains affiliations for several health care organizations and facilities. While we attempt to give students every opportunity as possible, students are expected to have flexibility when utilizing our existing affiliate facilities.
Additionally, students will receive the best clinical experience by participating in clinicals at facilities where they have connections through their prior surgical experience, such as employers and surgeons who are willing to precept them. We will make every attempt to complete affiliation agreements to open opportunities for students, however is also subject to facility's willingness to accept students. Students employed at a facility are encouraged to meet with their employers before starting the program to inform them of their intention.
Due to legal constraints, all 外科协助 clinical rotations will need to occur in the state of Texas.
